I'm working on HeroForge again. D&D puttering always helps calm the mind in the face of a second round of lithotripsy.

Not the last available 3.0 version, which while it has some useful stuff is still to frikin' huge, but one of the earlier ones that I downloaded just as we were starting the Russia game in '01. It's a darn handy program, and just playing with it teaching more and more about excel functions (it's nice to learn and play at the same time). So far I've added all the feats I wanted to add that aren't in the 3.0 PHB (including a whole shield-based combat style) and fixed a few of the niggling errors. The next step is getting something hacked in place for Familiars and Paladin Mounts, if only because a returning Arkadj would have both.

All of this is just an excuse to keep from working out the final numbers for prestige classes. The ones in the core books don't work for me, which is not a surprise given that none of those were designed for 1450's Russia, 600's Arabia, Celtic Myth, Imperial Rome or any of the other places this campaign might go.

Right now I'm keeping Assassin for the obvious ties to Arabian setting, Blackguard for the history of the Anti-Paladin (though that might go too) and ditching the other 4 from the DMG. I am definitely adding Bogatyr to cover the super-strong Russian or Celtic Folk hero, and Volkhv as a classically inscurtable Celtic druid or scholarly to the point of incomprehensibility wizard, Arabian dervish or Christian monk.

For technical reasons from the spreadsheet I want to try to cut it down to 6 prestige classes for the setting, so I have 2-3 slots left. Things that have an applicability across the various target cultures would be good, and certainly not things that can be mirrored by doing some quick multi-classing. Currently I'm considering
1) an analogue to the Dragon Disciple for someone who is becoming something not quite human through magic use.
2) a merchant explorer ala Marco Polo, Simbad and possibly the vikings who traded with Araby via Russia. This might just be a fighter/rogue, however, as no special abilities are coming to mind.
3) a holy warrior that gets several new ways to use Turn Undead, swiped from the feats in in Defenders of the Faith that I see as too specific to be feats. This is a set of powers looking for a good, multi-cultural hook, however.

Any suggestions on prestige classes that might fit would be appreciated.
