While the other gaming over the holiday weekend fizzled out (more on that anon), Eugene, Bob, Bob's daughter and I got to play three games of Save Dr. Lucky on Saturday night - a game I've had on my shelf for years but never had enough interested people to try.

For the first game I had to run upstairs before my first turn to put the baby to bed, yelling down that I trusted Bob to handle my play while I was gone. Fifteen minutes later I return to discover that I had just won! Through a fluke of play I (Bob) offered the good Dr. a towel on B deck (3 point save attempt) and no one had the cards to stop me (him). While impressive, this was a little unsatisfying for me, so we played again. Another short game where Bob won before even a single deck was flooded. We tried for game 3.

This, at last, was an epic game where there were 3 cards left on the rapidly listing A deck before fate gave me the win - my second to last draw was the last failure card to let me block Bob's save attempt, and my last draw - made while my pawn was standing next to Dr. Lucky - was the last save attempt in the deck. It was neat to see how game play changed as the board got smaller and smaller, and by this point Eugene and I were hamming it up, with my yellow pawn being Hop Sing and his black one being Captain Katanga. Bob's green pawn was a martian invader. I love it when wacky characterization appears in board games....
