So the players are tooling around on spreadsheets to build the Emirikol characters while I noodle around on the edges of the world. I'm resisting the urge to do too much social plotting around long term stuff because this is meant to be easy enough for my post-baby brain to handle. No point in shelving the Revolution if I'm just going to re-create that complexity here.

Jim's PC is something of a focal point because he has money and a fairly directed goal - getting vengeance on a family enemy who dishonored his Elvish grandfather centuries ago. The current idea has him adopting a foppish Bertie Wooster persona to disguise his true intentions. If we go with this, he'll be getting regular letters from Aunt Agatha telling him how worthless he is and extorting him to settle down and marry which, when decoded, will offer advice on how to crush her family enemies. I never did trust Aunt Agatha. Foppish persona or no, he's still a dangerous swordsman who has won dozens of challenges (usually made by others because of his slightly deformed looks).

If the players are amenable it would be easiest if Tom's PC were a cousin of Jim's, who might or might not be aware of his cousin's true personality. This would give an automatic connection between the characters as well as a reason why Jim's PC would be staying in Tom's house rather than elsewhere. It might also work if Dave's Bard's barony is within the duchy of either Jim's family or Jim's enemies family (though they might not know that up front) to give another level of connection. Bec's Sorcerer is likely to be the unconnected D'artagnan/Khaavren of the piece, but not being quite so central to the plots - this is just rough genre mapping.

In addition to owlbears, I will also warn the players that I own a copy of Heroes of Battle have been itching to use it. Of course, true to the genre your big battle might involve picnicking inside the abandoned enemy fortifications....
