[livejournal.com profile] netcurmudgeon and I just made our first foray against the LotR boardgame and not surprisingly got our asses handed to us by a German game designer who hadn't even bothered to show up. I/Frodo made it to the Mordor board with no cards in my hand and poor faithful Sam having been corrupted at the completion of Helm's Deep. I didn't make it very far past that.

We have already decided that once the bruises heal we'll be taking the damn board on again, and we'll see who comes out on top this time! Rinse, lather repeat, I'm sure, but it was a fun game.

That's a board game I've always wanted to try out but never had the chance.

I've owned my copy for nigh unto a year before finally finding the time to force it on someone else. Now that we understand the rules I can see how elegant it is, but it is a complex game of resource management and therefore not really up Rachel's alley - I'm glad I didn't foist it on her first, because it would have soured her on it, but having heard us play it she has expressed an interest in trying it in the future.
