Invasion of Capcodistan, part 1

Last weekend Rachel and I braved the inherent Massachussetsyness of or norther border and took a 4 day vacation to Cape Cod, staying in the same place that
netcurmudgeon and
ashacat used earlier this year. The trip was slightly delayed Saturday morning by the need to stop at the farmer's market to get some fruit and sourdough from this place, which has sourdough to die for.
And then off into the path of Hurricane Hannah. Oops. The little one, having heard we were going to the beach, was so excited that no sleep occurred in the 3+ hour drive (which overlapped nap time) and no napping occurred when we got to the hotel because, duh, dad, there's the beach down there. So we went down to the beach, which was a little chilly and a lot windy until the actual rain started - but this still made Elizabeth happy. Then back to the room, cleaned up and driving looking for things to do indoors and a place for dinner.
Now, rachel and I traditionally have horrible luck finding a place to eat on our first night somewhere. This year was no exception. After having to turn around several times (with Elizabeth in the back seat assuming we were either idiots or torturing her by driving into restaurants and then leaving them immediately without getting food) we pulled into a small place connected to a boat launch that promised some nice scenery if nothing else. The woman I spoke to there via cell promised a varied menu, but it was, um, not. And not very good. But at this point with a sleepy 2 year old you're stuck - she would not have allowed walking out of another place without a serious meltdown. But if we had, it would have spared her the cup of sour milk they brought out with her meal.
Yes, you read that right. When I say we have bad karma here I mean it.
And then back to the hotel, which had a loft with no doors for us to use to block her crib off - not the worst we've had, but not ideal. She jabbered for a very long time, but eventually went to sleep before the storm hit, and the heavy rain and wind did nothing to disturb her slumber. Thank heaven for that.
