Sure. This is why a) we're trying to develop a little more about the Betazed culture so they aren't just a collection of ad-hoc plot complications and b) I went out of my way to have the Deltans and the Betazed in the same place.
I suspect that by the timeof TNG all of the badass Betazed defense forces types will have toned down, as their planet is no longer in danger of being obliterated just because they're telepaths. That's as good a reason as any to explain the drop in milatarism that we see between our betazeds and the TNG ones, but at this time the Betazed had still, in Canon, conquered and were occupying another planet. That makes them a little more interesting ot me than the "hey, it's 70's casual sex in Trek" present in the Deltans.
