Even when you're fighting down low-end nausea, nagging pain and the after-effect of opiates, it's still fun to hack around with D&D character sheets and spend money on magic items. I find this to be a great comfort.

For those of you wondering, the lithotripsy isn't a problem; the stent they install afterward sucks. I just have to go on the doctor's promise that things would be worse without it.

Get well soon!

P.S. Am I the only one in A&E not to have suffered from renal calculi? And am I now next?

Ow! That sounds distressingly similar to my first kidney stone experience. I had a stent put in but it really didn't seem to help much; the pain was constant and interfered with my concentration. Eventually the consultant decided to go in and physically remove the stone, after which everything got back to normal.

I have shared your pain (don't know if that helps) and I hope you get through this soon.

Bet you haven't rolled up any characters as outrageously high-stats as Doc Menace though.

Not sure, but you're in the minority, it seems. Keep your intake of fluids up!

On Friday they (hopefully) blasted the stone to smithereens, but I have the stent in until next Tuesday at the earliest (based on the x-ray results). I know they got parts of it at least, and the idea of getting blasted again doesn't bother me - it's the extra 3 weeks of stent backwash into the kidney that is such a literal and philosophical pain.

The sucker was 14 mm in diameter. That sounded small at first because hey, it's in millimeters, but that's 3/4 of an inch!

Ouch! I never found out the size of the first stone I had, only that it "was shaped like the island of Corsica".

I didn't get much out of the lithotripsy I underwent, which is why the consultant took it out under general anaesthetic later on.

(and the pedant in me has to point out 14mm = 0.6 of an inch. Sorry!)

Owwww...

Get well soon, man...

And just remember -- it would have been far worse not to have the lithotripsy, with or without the stent...
