I would never force a player to maintain a character diary, regardless of what the rulebook says. Some people dig it, but for those who don't it actively diminishes the enjoyment of the game. Why breed resentment like that?

I had thought your dislike of Feng Shui stemmed from the Secret War/ deliberately ahistorical and ever changing setting, not from the mechanics themselves. This game is consciously designed to be secret war/time war free. Would that make a difference, or is your dislike of the system more systemic?
Ad yes, the first Bond books came out in the 50's, but the first Bond films are very much a part of the 60's. I can clearly use the books publication dates for a fig leaf of authenticity (if that mattered), but I still see it as an anachronism.
