I rechecked that during today's game, and it looks as if your reading is actually the correct one. Sorry to contribute potential confusion. I'm afraid the rules were written just confusingly enough so I was able to misread them. . . . Of course, for a normal human, a stab with a knife does, say, 4 or 6 base points, and you might expect maybe +2 success levels, total 8. Multiplying x4 gives total 32, which will not kill a normal human. So it's mainly unreasonably good because a Slayer is a superhero.
