Now that the shock has worn off a bit, I can discuss my Monday. I got an early morning call from my boss letting me know that the entire region structure was being disassembled and all region associates being terminated. The company will be posting for new jobs in the support office - likely far fewer in number than all the region ones, obviously, as this is a cost savings measure - but current thinking is that all Support Office jobs have to move to Chicago. And none of the divisions are likely hiring right now, because business is bad. Short form - unless something changes I'm out of a job as of md March.

I'd be much more upset with my boss (who had repeatedly reassured me at the end of 2008 that he had no intention of letting me go) were it not for the fact that he had leared about this just a few days earlier, and was in the exact same boat of needing to apply for one of the other jobs. Of course, he has the advantage of already living in Chicago, but I can hardly be mad at him for that.

So the current  plan is to play out the next 8 weeks with dignity and home that as we get closer to the deadline they might realize that they need more of my job functions than they thought, and either they have not yet found someone to do what I do in Chicago (so I can extend my time a little) or they decide it's not efficient to find such a person. During this, I start the search for alternate employment and hope it doesn't come to that (because such alternate employment will likely still mean moving, just not to Chiacgo, which is officially "too far away from family").
