Couldn't sleep last night, so I set myself up in the sun room and watched, um, 8 episodes of Buffy - [profile] ctwriterwas kind enough provide me with seasons 2-7. I saw 4 episodes from the middle of season 2 and then remembered that I haven't seen seasons 6 or 7, so I watched the (rather depressing) first 4 episodes of season 6. I finally crawled into bed at 3:45.

The baby woke me up at 6:45, thus beginning our broadcast day. We took a family outing to the farmer's market and procured some organic milk and eggs, nectarines and potatoes, bread and corn, all with the plan of using much of that to make dinner tonight. Dinner ended up being roast chicken with salt, rosemary & sage under the skin, roast potatoes, french bread and silver queen corn so delicious that no butter was required. Mmmmmmmm.....

An afternoon shopping venture secured me a copy of The Coroner's Lunch, the author of which was just profiled on NPR. It's proving compulsively readable and lyrical. Rachel got the second book in a series of pleasant little romance mysteries (the first was A Rather Lovely Inheritance, which worked well read aloud). And I was horrified to discover that Linda Greenlaw's atrocious Slipknot apparently sold well enough to garner a sequel, Fisherman's Bend. This is proof, I guess, that name recongition is really all one needs - I do wish Greenlaw would go back to her fishing and sailing memoirs and walk quietly away from mystery fiction before someone gets hurt.

Finally a trip to one of the local game and hobby stores that I had mysteriously never visited turned out to be a delight - a filled-to-the-gills game/hobby/toy/modeling/card store under local ownership where I scored copies of the 3.0 Players Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide to have as spares. [profile] kriz1818, if you're looking to run D&D for your 8 year old, I can now loan you a DMG (the monster data is all on the SRD); this might be better than going with your 2E books because the challenge rating system makes scaling encounters a little easier. Just let me know.

Got home, mowed lawn, but the baby to bed (she's still jabbering away) and intend to go back to my new book before passing out an early hour. But this is turning into a much needed family weekend. Hooray!
