Our young fella is not walking yet but has learned to crawl and cruise from furniture to furniture in the last week. There isn't enough space in the house to put everything up high. Even if there was I'd be terrified it would all come down on top of me in a chattelanche one day.
Instead of completely changing everything about your house, you may want to consider putting together a baby jail. These gates (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265804) can be picked up at your local Babies'R'Us and can connect to the wall on the ends or to each other and can be strung across a room, so you can cordon off a section of a room that's baby proof without having to move other things that are mostly immovable like tvs and fireplaces. Our living room is about 2/3 dedicated to the babies using 2 gates with the floor level window, bookshelf of dvds, fireplace, tv and exit blocked off. Just a though.

So far the danger is still rising at our house.
