The times when random chance knows best

The plan, you see, was for [profile] corylus_unboundand [profile] rakhirto turn up at Arisia Friday night; [profile] kriz1818and I would arrive for a day with them at the con on Saturday and then Sunday [profile] 40yearsagotoday and everybody's respective families would join us for a meander around Beantown (that's Boston, not Bangalore, which is BAKED Bean town, and where [profile] ashacatis). But then Arisia sold out of passes for the con (something in my genius I had not expected) and wouldn't be selling the day passes Kriz1818 and I were depending on for Saturday - just Sunday (hopefully - still no word as I type this).

So we swapped days and did the big family touist outing yesterday. By dint of great good fortune the rain held off all day as we walked from the Prudential to Quincy Market with 40yearsagotoday acting as a great native guide. Today is almost assured to be rainy, sleety and generally icky - but the con is inside! And I, the Panglossian Paragon - with the naive hope that this is the best of all possible worlds! - triumph again!

It was a great afternoon and a pleasure to finally meet folks in meatspace.

Yeah, smaller hotel this year...

...the Park Plaza doesn't love us anymore, so we moved to the giant Ziggurat on Memorial Drive, which is a much smaller hotel. Viv and I only got in because we were volunteers last year and this. OTOH, it was LionCub's first con, which was all the awesome. Keep an eye out in the Boston Globe for the most egregiously misguided caption, as the photographer really had no chance in hell of getting the names straight. A friend of mine is holding the baby, I'm on one side, and a Mrs. Abraham who is the wife of one of the other Daniel Abraham's is standing on the other side. If they get the caption right, it'll be a miracle.

I got in today, no problem. My natural instinct for claiming authority I don't possess made me a temporary part of the registration desk staff as I carried their computers out for them and organized the queue. This got me in first when registration got rolling.

And from what I heard, the doctor's convention that the Park Plaza booked instead of Arisia bailed - I suspect due to weather fears - so it was sitting all but empty this weekend.

and see it is this good luck that forces some of us to deal with the dark forces on a nigh weekly basis....

you're just lucky I'm convinced the kharmic black hole will shift to somebody else someday. Optimism! The Great Anesthesizer!

It was great to finally meet everyone in person. =) And the weather did hold for us on Saturday. I am still a little disappointed I didn't get to see snow, but it was still a great time.

Thank you all for coming over to meet with us. That means a lot to me...
