Props to Herr Doktor Underkoffler

Trapped in a hotel room for work (more on that nightmare later), I got to see the back half of Speed Racer. It was everything he said it was and more. Proof positive that a movie can be Perfect without exactly being Good.

"Proof positive that a movie can be Perfect without exactly being Good."

Like "Split Second" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space" : )

Exactly!

See Also: FLASH GORDON, HUDSON HAWK, POPEYE, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, and BUCKAROO BANZAI.

Amen.

I would be tempted to add MEGAFORCE to that list.

Personally, I'd strike HUDSON HAWK off the list - it never appealed to me to see it, and then when I did Netflix it a few months back was severely underwhelmed. But for the others, yes.

Though I do wonder what the producers of Buckaroo Banzi could have done if they had Speed Racer's budget....

probably changed the equation and made it less perfect. I think a lot of that movie's charm was how hokey it was, even by 80's standards. : )

For example: look how bad the Star Wars movies have become now that George Lucas has access to massive amounts of CGI.
