At this glorious moment

DD is sleeping. The girl just refuses to nap, and getting her to fall asleep on her own for the night is another problem. The only thing that saves us from an impossibly Poor Tired Little Girl (PTLG) is that once she falls asleep for the night, she's out for 11-12 hours.

This is just really horrific. I hope none of the readers with kids younger or on the way have to face this.

Dammit, 7 minutes and she started crying again....

Ah. I remember that period with Rowan, and I count ourselves lucky that she did settle to a full night's sleep more quickly than our neighbours' boy who didn't sleep a full night through until he was abou 18 months.

I'm surprised there aren't more murders committed by sleep-deprived parents (not so much against their kids but anyone who dares wake them up once they're asleep) but I suppose that most such parents aren't sufficiently together to wield a lethal weapon.

I hope she settles to a better routine soon.

My sympathies...and memories.

Have you thought about Ferberizing your little one?

We have, but when we have tried to go in and comfort her she just keeps crying in an increasingly frantic way. One night after 15 minutes in our arms she still wouldn't calm down. That makes the idea of gradual extinction difficult to swallow, since it seems to have an adverse effect on this one.

[livejournal.com profile] corylus_unbound has mentioned alpha music, which will be tried today. But last night even as exhausted as she was there was still 45 minutes of crying before she went down for the night - after her 2 one hour cries-that-ought-to-have-been-naps.

{hugs} Thank heavens that she is sleeping for the time she is but getting her there without the angst would be better for you all.

I'm struggling to come up with other suggestions beyond what we've discussed already. Try the music it does work eventually but you might have to give it a few goes and try different types of music till you find what she's attuned to. Also if your DW played the piano whilst pregnant that might help...
