Invasion of Capecodistan, part II

The next morning started early when Elizabeth - off kilter from lack of sleep and being in a different place - woke up at 5 AM. We had to bring her downstairs to sleep with us (something we only do on vacations) to squeeze and extra hour of sleep out of her. But the day was warm and the skies were clear, so we thought the day had great promise. After breaking our fast we brought her back down to the beach where she played in the wet sand and the dry sand, but was turned off by the water, full as it was with seaweed churned up by the remnants of Hannah the night before. It was a lovely morning.

We walked down to a local place that ashacat had recommended and had a nice little lunch (what did children eat before the invention of the chicken finger and fries combo?) before going back to our room for everyone to take a nap. The room hadn't been cleaned, but we didn't really need fresh sheets or towels so we hung out the do not distrub sign and put a tuckered little girl in her crib before passing out on the bed ourselves.

One hour later there was a heavy banging on our door - the cleaning woman. She had ignored the do not disturb sign, stated that the door was partially open (huh?) and she had to clean the room. There I am arguing with her though that she had to leave now,  did she not see the 'do not disturb' sign and there was a napping baby when Elizabeth woke up screaming. Even at this the woman continued to argue with me until I just told her to leave and slammed the door. This early termination of her much needed nap left Elizabeth in a mood all afternoon, ruining the peace and quiet we'd previously attained.

We ended up taking her to the Zooquarium, a mix of aquarium and petting zoo just up the street, where she eschewed the animals to climb over their model train for a while. Alas, we ot there at 2:45 and they closed at 4:00. We went back to the room, I got Chinese take out for dinner (stopping to buy some chocolate for Rachel) and we tried to keep Elizabeth more or less on track until bed time. She went down with less complaint, but it had been a frustrating afternoon.
