 Some time ago in A&E I wrote a short essay on abandoned cities - a staple of the fantasy genre - and what it would take to actually prodice one in this day and age. Turns out someone listed the top 10 in the world, with photos.

Number 2 on your list, PRYPIAT (Ukraine): the Chernobyl workers' city, features prominently in a book I recently read, James Rollins' "The Last Oracle".
